Busy May Pushes New Names Into DOTY List

May was a very busy month for Indonesian debating with 4 competitions contributing to the Debater of the Year table. It started with the classic ALSA UI E-Competition, continued with the repackaged Surabaya Debate Event, then the inaugural Jakarta Mini and ended with achievements in the United Asians Debating Championship, the continent's most prestigious tournament. Almost 30 new names entered the list but Institut Teknologi Bandung's Rifan Ibnu Rahman looks hard to chase after winning the Jakarta Mini. The tighter competition is for second place after Binus International team mates Invi Atmanegara and Jaran Walia won the EFL category of UADC to cut the gap with national champion Aryo Febrian from Universitas Bakrie.

There were also regional selections of the 2012 National Universities English Debating Championships and a national novice tournament in May but these did not count for the list due to their geographical or experience-based restrictions. The national round results of NUEDC will be incorporated in the list in June.

The top 10 of the 2012 DOTY list as of May are:
  1. Rifan Ibnu Rahman (Institut Teknologi Bandung)
  2. Aryo Febrian (Universitas Bakrie)
  3. Invi Atmanegara (Binus International)
  4. Jaran Walia (Binus International)
  5. Mutiara Hapsari (Universitas Bakrie)
  6. Nabila Aghniarizqa (Universitas Gadjah Mada)
  7. Fauzan Reza Maulana (Institut Teknologi Bandung)
  8. Amir Abdul Aziz (Universitas Gadjah Mada)
  9. Jane Revevalin (Institut Teknologi Bandung)
  10. Dungga Nur Prayogo (Universitas Brawijaya)
